March 2010: Key Largo Offshore Report

Offshore Fishing Remains Hot in Key Largo

Yes we are referring to the fishing in Key Largo-the temperatures have been cooler than normal for the past month. This has not affected our offshore bite,we are continuing to see good catches and release of sailfish, kingfish, and many other species.. Also the really good news is that we are seeing on a daily basis more dolphin(mahi-mahi) coming thru. As we go into March we will see the numbers of dolphin pick up everyday.
Our winter fishing has been a mixed bag , we are seeing nice Mutton Snapper 12-15lbs, african pompano, amberjacks, sharks and baracuda being caught on the deeper wrecks. We are also seeing some nice Black Grouper being caught and released.(They should still be abundant on May 1)

March promises to be warmer(so I am told) and we look for the first big pushes of mahi-mahi to start migrating thru Key Largo(nice dolphin in the 20lb plus range will be abundant).

On the reef we have also had a very good snapper and mackerel bite.  In Key Largo we are very fortunate to have so many great fishing reefs and wrecks, this allows us to do many types of fishing to assure we have a successful day.

As the weather warms up in March – the fishing will also-Why not call us to arrange a day of Sportfishing in Key Largo aboard our Rampage-Fin Razer or our Carolina -The SOZ.
